Yamba ladies ready for another great year of golf. Image: contributed

Yamba Ladies Opening Day

Today, Yamba ladies golfers will participate in an 18-hole Texas Stableford game to acknowledge the start of the 2020 golfing calendar. With over 50 ladies taking part, all funds raised from the purchase of Mulligans will go towards our contribution for the upcoming Maclean Hospital Charity Day to be held at Iluka on Wednesday, February 26.

Jointly hosted by Iluka and Yamba Ladies Golf and kindly sponsored by Faye McClymont and the Iluka Men’s Vets Club, this annual fundraising event for our local hospital is always strongly supported by our lady members. As usual, there will be three divisions for the single Stableford format which will have a shotgun start at 9am. While lots of NTPs, division and raffle prizes always prove a popular drawcard, the amazing gold coin donation lunch, morning and afternoon teas are definite winners. The $30 entry fee and nomination details should be given to Margery ASAP.

Our hiatus over the past few weeks has seen keen participation in the summer competition which was managed by the Pro Shop and sponsored by the club. We’ve seen some great scores despite the inevitable heat, and after recent rainy weather the humidity has added an extra challenge. Many thanks to all who have participated. Vouchers and balls need to be collected from the Pro Shop please.

Congratulations are in order for Gwynne Thomas who took out the amateur honours in our recent ALPG Findex Pro Am event held at the club. Gwynne scored an impressive 37 points on the day. We had a number of ladies who featured in the winners’ circle including: Janine Zietsch (33pts) – runner up; Gillian Holst (32pts c/b) – 3rd and upcoming Junior, Tana Lowe (30pts c/b) – 5th. Janine, Carrie Aitken, Sue Scott and Lyn Rowland also took home very generous NTP prizes. Many thanks are due for Lyn Rowland who had the mammoth task of organising the billeting arrangements for the visiting pros. This great event showcased our beautiful course and offered locals the opportunity to play with upcoming professionals. We are so very fortunate to host it on an annual basis.

We are looking forward to another busy year of golf with our first single Stroke monthly medal to be held on Wednesday, February 19. Nominations for our Wednesday events can be made on the sheets which are located near the green room computers. Our friendly Wednesday nine-holers are also keen to welcome any newcomers to the game. Please contact the Pro-Shop on 6646 1656 for information on how to join in.
