Weather plays havoc with Yamba ‘Three Day’

Yamba Ladies Golf 41st Three Day Annual Tournament was held last week as a shortened competition due to the affect of the inclement weather on the golf course. The rain bucketed down on Monday which led to a cancelation of the Foursomes event. Tuesday seemed a better gamble for organisers, but after early heavy rain, the events resulted in a shortened version to 9 hole Stroke on the front 9 and Stableford for some grades on the back 9. The committee showed remarkable resilience, coordinating amidst three days of rain and storms. Monday foursomes were cancelled as the course was closed. Most participants, however, attended the cocktail party and fashion parade which was held that same evening. Clothes from a number of local stores, including the Yamba Professional Shop were paraded in great style by our own models. Thanks to Tina for the hairdos. Tuesday field hit off at 7am and the majority of players completed 9 holes before the back nine was closed. Afternoon players completed 9 holes on the front nine. The dinner evening was held under a ‘beach’ theme, and was enjoyed by some very happy people. The entertainment highlight was a wonderful rendition of the only all female Olympic sport, synchronized swimming. This was choreographed by Lyn. Our very own Deidre gave her usual surprise performance much to everyone’s delight. The young dancers from the Clarence River Dance Academy run by Adele were really enjoyed as a usual event, as were the Tappers and Margaret Ramsey’s singers from the Clarence Coast Theatrical Society. President Lynne White was most grateful for the support given by major sponsors Westlawn Financial Services and Duncan Carpet Cleaning Services. Lynne also thanked everyone who had donated trophies and those who offered their time to aid the committee. Note of appreciation went also to those people who offered assistance on the course and who promised buggies, which in some cases were not needed. Winners of the three day raffle were Priscilla Rolfe (Maroochy River), second was Barbara Ferguson (Links Hope Island) and third was Sue Quinn. Congratulations to all the winners. The golf results are as follows: Grade 1 – Darrie Nightingale (Yamba) 40. Grade 2 – Kathy Parker (Yamba) 45. Grade 3 – Front 9 Sharyn Mott (Oxley) 50. Back 9 – Anita Scullion (Links Hope Is) 50. Grade 4 – Gwynne Thomas (Yamba) 52. Stableford – Marion Coy (Sanctuary Cove) 15pts nett. Grade 1 – Ann Groom (Yamba) 36.5. Grade 2 – Frances Lumsdon (Orange) 34.5.
