Transport company delivers tourism message

Lynne Mowbray | A local transport company keen on promoting the local area has literally taken it to the streets. Graeme Nicholson of Nicholson and Page Transport, Townsend, has just had the back of his interstate transport truck, covered in a graphic display of aerial photographs of the Lower Clarence. Mr Nicholson who is a member of the Maclean Chamber of Commerce said that the Maclean Chamber together with the Iluka and Yamba Chambers decided to promote the Lower Clarence on the back doors of his truck trailer. “We’ve got aerial photographs of Yamba, Maclean, Iluka and we’ve also included the village of Brooms Head as it doesn’t have a Chamber representative there,” Mr Nicholson said. “We (the combined Chambers) moved forward with the idea and then the Clarence Valley Council (CVC) came on board and put the artwork together and sent it off to the sign writers. “The project has cost the Chambers nothing and the council have chipped in for it and we (Nicholson’s) have provided the truck and paid for the artwork to be put on the back doors. “The CVC are planning to monitor how the mobile signage is tracking, by how many visits they receive through their www.myclarencevalley.com/followme page. “It’s a win win for the local Chambers and for local tourism and hopefully it will all work. “I’ve toyed with the idea of doing this for many years and now it’s finally come together. “Our trucks cover the whole of the eastern seaboard and out to Dubbo in the west. “I’ve already had positive feedback with a few people telling me ‘they’re on their way’ and to ‘put the kettle on’. “It’s a fantastic way to promote the Lower Clarence and it will be interesting to see how it goes,” he said. Clarence Valley Council destination management officer, Lou Gumb, said the offer from Nicholson Transport to promote the Clarence Valley was incredibly generous. “This was an obvious partnership that will benefit the Clarence Valley, particularly the Lower Clarence,” she said. “Graeme Nicholson is passionate about promoting the area and approached the Maclean, Yamba and Iluka Chambers of Commerce and council with the idea. “We were more than happy to support him. “We had the photos taken and will use those in the future to promote the Clarence and created the graphic design in-house. “It is the type of collaboration we are keen to explore with other businesses in the Clarence.” Mrs Gumb said the truck images carried a specific web address, which would allow tourism staff to determine how many people had clicked onto the tourism website because of the Nicholson Transport promotion.
