South Grafton Public School girls football (soccer) team recently defeated Kingscliff Public School 3-1 in the Public School Sports Association Knockout North Coast final. The team is now placed in the top eight of the state. This is a great achievement for the girls as it is a knockout competition and goes to show that they have played with consistency.

The team is coached by Mark Newman and the assistant coach is Lesley Taylor. All three goals in the game were scored by Lilly Tough.

Yesterday, the team from South Primary played against Tamworth Public School, in the Northern NSW final. This is the tenth game that the team has played in together. At the time of print, results were unavailable for this game. Full results will be in next week’s paper.

In his years of coaching this football side this is the furthest that a team has got in the knockout competition. The team played a terrific game with great sportsmanship and skill.

“They are dedicated, they train, and they support each other on the field,” Mr Newman said.

The team has also been supported by the parents coming down to watch and cheer on the girls.

“I would also like to thank Steve Duroux for helping with the referees and Mrs Bartlett and Ms Taylor for helping out with training,” Mr Newman said.
