Maclean Vets ‘Week of Golf’

The Maclean Vets conducted their ‘Week of Golf’ last week and the weather couldn’t have been better – a bit cool early in the morning but otherwise lovely sunny days just great for playing golf.

We had 150 golfers register for our four day event. Golfers came from Hervey Bay to Melbourne and from all over NSW. Our course staff had the course in immaculate condition and while some had difficulty reading the greens they all had a wonderful time. They played a mystery 4 ball on the Monday, a single Stableford on both the Tuesday and the Thursday culminating in the 36 hole NSW Vets overall winner and then on the Friday they played a mixed 4 ball event.

While there were too many prizes to list them all the 36 hole nett event went to Jenny Coleman from Toolangi in Victoria and the men’s winner was Peter Buckman from Temora. They both took home the main prize as well as the NSW Vets shield. The scratch winners of the 36 hole event were our very own Sue FongKee for the ladies and Bill Micallef for the men.

We could not run such an event without the help of sponsors and on behalf of the Vets I would like to thank the following sponsors for their wonderful generosity and support again this year: Clarence Valley Council, Toohey’s Beer, Saltwater Caravan Park, G.J.Gardiner Homes Grafton, Maclean Bowling Club, Maclean Golf Club, Maclean Services Club, Graham & Marlene Roberts, Watson Leisure and Caravans, Spar Supermarket Maclean, Botero Cafe, Big River Sheds, Clarence River Fish Co-op, Harwood Sugar Mill, Top Hotel Maclean, Maclean Lady Golfers and Bruce and Megan Walsh.

Thank you also to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly all week to ensure that the tournament ran smoothly, to the course and club staff who looked after all the players and to Suey in the kitchen who provided the meals each day culminating with the hot chicken roast lunch on the last day.

I need to make note too of the special award that was presented to Marlene and Graham Roberts by Vets Golf NSW in recognition of their work and commitment given to Vets golf in NSW. Congratulations to you both Marlene and Graham.

Our next game is a 2 ball aggregate to be played on Monday July 29 followed by a game on the next week, the monthly medal and 1st Round of the Vets championships.
