Maclean Hospital Auxiliary – Fashion Parade

At the recent meeting of the Maclean Lower Clarence Hospital Auxiliary two new members, Meg Dee and Margaret Clark, were warmly welcomed.

The general manager of the hospital, Dan Madden, attended and spoke to the meeting, complimenting members on the nice Mothers’ Day Morning Tea. The hospital has been extremely busy recently and he advised everyone to get a flu vaccination. He commented on the election campaign promise to increase the number of nurses but more nurses are very hard to find. He also described problems of access from the helipad to the hospital.

Eight members went to the Grafton Mothers’ Day Morning Tea which was very enjoyable with a large number in attendance.

The Fashion Parade of pre-loved clothing, followed by a delicious afternoon tea, was enjoyed by sixty-five ladies and raised $1300 towards the ultrasound machine. Over $75,000 has been raised so far, more than half way towards our goal of $148,000. The raffle winners were Carol Ellis, Debra Clout and Doreen Jamieson. There were also numerous lucky door prize winners. President Sandra thanked Wellspring Op Shop for providing the clothes, many of which were snapped up by the audience after the parade for the bargain price of $5 each. Some of the attractive tops were brand new, with price tags still on them.

Sandra also thanked the models who paraded with such professional aplomb, Rhonda Shaw for her excellent commentary, Edie Quick and her helpers in the kitchen, auxiliary members for the food and Treelands Drive Community Centre for the use of their premises. Last, but definitely not least, a big thank you to the community for their continued support.

The next fund raiser is a stall at Maclean Markets on Saturday June 8. Members are asked to provide goods to sell.
