Maclean Hospital Auxiliary Christmas luncheon

The Maclean Lower Clarence Hospital Auxiliary Christmas luncheon held on December 1 was, once again, very enjoyable. President Sandra welcomed everyone with special mention of nurse manager Tara Chambers and family, Katie Becker, the hospital sonographer representing doctors Dean Robertson and Simon Fenn, the mayor Jim Simmons and his wife, the Grafton UHA and the Maclean Seniors Club.

Tara Chambers thanked the auxiliary for all their work which is really appreciated by the staff and patients. Katie Becker explained the importance of the coming ultrasound machine and and all its different uses. The fund has now reached $130,000 to which will be added approximately $2600 from the luncheon..

During lunch folk singer and guitarist, Sky McKenny, entertained everyone with some lovely songs.

The Christmas cake was expertly cut by internal life member, Sandra Woods. A large number of Tombola prizes were distributed to the fortunate winners and those whose lucky door tickets were drawn out chose their prizes.

The first prize in the major raffle was a beautiful hand made quilt. It was started by a member of the Maclean Quilters but sadly she passed away before completing it so the other members finished it and donated it to the auxiliary. It was won by Glynis Hall. Second prize went to Yvonne Hughes, third to David Miles and fourth to Elizabeth Griffin.

Certificates of appreciation for donations and help during the year were presented to a large number of people and organisations.

To conclude the day President Sandra thanked the following people: Chef Craig and Kate plus the Yamba women bowlers; Phil Boughton and the Yamba Bowling Club and staff; Trish Bowes and Margaret Clarke for Christmas cakes; Monique Turner for cake decoration; Rita Nutt and helpers for table decorations; Debbie May for flowers.

She also thanked auxiliary members for their help in preparing the tables and for the important task of selling raffle tickets. Finally, thank you to the very generous members of the community who continue to support the auxiliary.

The next fund raiser will be a stall at Maclean Markets on Saturday December 14, followed by a stall at the McMarkets on Saturday January 4 and a garage sale on Saturday January 18 at 50 The Mainbrace, Yamba. Anyone wishing to donate goods is asked to deliver them between 2pm and 4pm on Friday January 17.

The next meeting of the auxiliary will be on Monday February 17, 2020.
