Maclean High School Under 13s Bats through to Country Championship State final in Bathurst

For the first time in 30 years Maclean High School are off to the State Final in Rugby League.

The Under 13s Bats progressed through the State Semi Final in the Country Cup at Coffs Harbour with 3 Great Performances against Mackillop College Port Macquarie, St Edward College Gosford and Farrer Agricultural Memorial High School Tamworth in Coffs Harbour last Wednesday. In earlier games they had a draw with Mackillop College and won this game on a count back due to first try scoring. They had a very convincing win over a well drilled Farrer side in game 2. They progressed to the final against St Edwards Gosford where they held out for a tough fought 4-0 win in heavy rain conditions. The boys showed great energy, enthusiasm and toughness especially in defence to take the win against the much bigger team.

The 13s Bats have already been successful in earlier games with great wins over Woodlawn College Lismore, Murwillumbah High School, Grafton High and Macaulay Catholic College Grafton.

The boys travel to Bathurst on Tuesday the 13th August for the State final against Edmund Rice College Wollongong. The staff and students at Maclean High and the Lower Clarence community are very proud of the boys and wish them the best of luck in the State final. Lets hope they bring back the trophy to the Northern Rivers.
