Last week’s monthly medal Stroke was well attended and was played in perfect conditions with the course presented at its absolute best by maestro Greenkeeper, Doug Turner, and his Army of Merry Volunteers.

Sponsoring the day was Tom Lindsay of Lindsay Transport trucking fame. Tom was the co-founder, of the now giant trucking firm, with his brother and started from very humble beginnings over 50 years ago. Now a resident of Coffs Harbour, Tom maintains a second residence in Iluka and returns to play regularly at the Iluka Golf Club. Always a popular figure at our club the ‘Mollydooker’ was in good form shooting a good nett 72. Well done and thank you Tom.

Div 1 medal winner was Bob Oddy with a nett 70 and r/up was Frank Poore with a nett 71. In Bob Oddy’s absence, Frank Poore was generous in his praise for the golf course and his good friend Tom Lindsay for the generous sponsorship that Tom always provides for the Club.

Div 2 medal winner saw a bolter. Bill Purnell, formerly known as ‘Bill the Baker’ now known as ‘Bill the Bandit,’ romped in with a nett 65 and blew the field away. Runner up with a very honest nett 70 was Stephen Hayes. Bill the Bandit was not the least bit embarrassed at his great score, receiving his monthly medal and proudly declared his handicap is on the way down and certainly did not have any residue dough in his eyes to cloud his vision today. Well done to Bill the Bandit and we are all happy that his handicap is coming down.

NTP’s: 1 / 10 – no result; 6 / 15 – Danny Mortison; 8 / 17     – Ian Brown. The Roy Ellery 3rd shot 3 / 12 went to John ‘Dicko’ Dickson.

Barry Robbie Mars Bar & Porcelain Cup went to our treasurer and snake man himself, Jeoff Turner. Jeoff proclaimed he really enjoys munching down on his Mars Bar on the journey home to Ashby. In cricket terms Jeoff hit a century before lunch and was still not out at stumps, scoring freely with the ball going everywhere.

The ball rundown went to eight players with a nett of 72 or better.
