Iluka Golf Club Presentation Night

Captain, Jim Cazalet, got the night off to a flying start, by running through all the minor trophy winners in record time. No long boring speeches from captain Jim.

He then presented the major trophy winners in record time, with very few speeches until Club Champion, Peter McCurtanye, was presented with his wonderful trophy and preceded to give a shot by shot account of all four rounds including the elusive ball that stayed up in the tree in the first round on the 3rd hole. I was his playing partner that day and can attest to his ball staying up in the tree and having to go back to the tee and reload. Low and behold it happened again two holes later on the 5th. However, Peter recovered like a true champion and went on the win the major Club Championship trophy.

Brian Kembrey, a long term Iluka Golf Club member, was presented the Most Valued Member award for a long record of volunteering and was delighted with the trophy, an intricate wood bowl produced by our own Roy Ellery.

Most Improved award went to Doug Turner, who has won everything of late and has dropped 5 shots off his handicap over the year. Well done Doug, on a wonderful achievement and may the upside continue. Doug does have an advantage in that he knows every blade of grass on the course (as greenkeeper), and it has been suggested that he sets up the course to suit his game. Certainly a wild suggestion that created a lot of laughter around the tables.

The ‘Zen Trio’ entertained the good crowd and encouraged many to dance the night away.

Jack, our restauranteur, severed up a wonderful choice which was enjoyed by all. A highlight of the night came when Jack’s lieutenant, Chop Chop, was encouraged to come out and dance. Well dance he did in Mandarin and/ or Cantonese, to the delight of all.
