Harvest Trail Workshop – Why be part of a Food Trail?

Northern Rivers Food (NRF) and Clarence Valley Food Inc will be co-hosting a free community workshop on Food Trails on Wednesday 21 November in Maclean, in preparation for the next NRF Harvest Trail in May 2019. “The Northern Rivers Food Harvest Festival is all about connecting people with real food on real farms and celebrating our amazing producers”, said Allison Henry, Executive Officer of Northern Rivers Food. “In 2019 we’re excited to be expanding the Harvest Festival to a 10 day celebration – with an Opening Event at Husk Distillers at North Tumbulgum, our inaugural Harvest Autumn Fair at the North Byron Parklands and the return of our Harvest Trail.” NRF coordinated an inaugural Harvest Food Trail in May 2018, with 19 local food businesses participating. “The success of our first Trail means we are looking to expand the Trail in 2019. We’re particularly keen to have more farms and food producers from the Clarence Valley participate next year,” said Ms Henry. Chair of Clarence Valley Food Inc Debrah Novak said “Our group are very excited to be involved in next year’s Northern Rivers Food Harvest Trail. The Clarence Valley has over 1000 registered primary producers and 195 eateries and food manufacturers so we are very keen to work with anyone who wants to put their hand up for this wonderful opportunity.” In preparation for the 2019 Harvest Trail, the Maclean workshop will focus on the opportunities and benefits of Food Trails and outline how local Clarence Valley farmers and food producers can get involved. The Harvest Trail workshop is a free event, open to local farmers and food producers as well as community members who simply want to hear more about Food Trails. The workshop will be followed by refreshments and networking opportunities. Registrations at https://bit.ly/2JSVShP 2019 Harvest Trail Extending from Tweed to Grafton, the Harvest Trail will showcase local Northern Rivers producers over the weekend of Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 May 2019. Northern Rivers Food producers participating in the Trail will open their doors from 10am-3pm either Saturday, Sunday or both days, and offer a range of activities and experience for visitors over the weekend. Supported by a special NRF map, Food Trail participants will have an opportunity to drop into local farms and learn where their food is grown, the sustainable methods used to grow or produce the food, and meet the farmer who grew and brought the food to market. Farm and food based activities will include family friendly workshops and educational experiences, free tastings, demonstrations and “pick your own” opportunities.
