Grafton Floral Art Society

President, Lyn welcomed members of the meeting of the Grafton Floral Art Society, and firstly made mention that she has been contacted by the Cancer Council, as to whether the group is contemplating holding a Cancer Council Morning Tea during 2020.

She also mentioned documentation and our 2018/2019 auditors reports had been submitted to the Department of Fair Trading and had been approved.

Vice president, Doreen gave a brief report on information obtained from Mary Sweeney at the recent NSW Floral Art Association meeting held at Barraba.

It was mentioned that the Patron of the Society, Jack Counter passed away. Mr Counter had been a Patron for many years and would be missed.

Correspondence was tabled from the Berry Garden Club Festival in October, inviting members and a colourful informative brochure was tabled. The newsletter was welcomed from the Queensland Floral Art Society, which is always of interest, being affiliated with the society for many years. The spring issue of ‘Our Garden’ was received and distributed to members.

A committee was nominated to finalise the Floral Art section 11 schedule for the 2020 Grafton Agriculture Show, as this section is a major sponsor by the society.

The hands-on exercise for the meeting was manipulation of foliage and leaves and proved to be popular and a positive experience.  Each member participated and with assistance for Doreen producing examples, some completed, some incomplete, with strelitzia, cordyline and flax foliage being the most popular.

Members are reminded that the next meeting will be held August 22, and will have a nominated demonstrator; everyone is most welcome to attend.
