GDSC men’s bowls

To kick off this week, the final of the Champion of Champions Pairs was held on Saturday afternoon in some fairly windy and difficult conditions. The team of T and B Johnson from Yamba got off to a great start, handling the wind and getting themselves to a commanding lead of 14 to 0 early. Although it looked a daunting task, the Iluka team of P Wrice and T Jenner never gave up but just fell short going down 26 to 22 in the end of an entertaining match. Congratulations to the Johnsons on their victory and commiserations to the team from Iluka.

Friday saw 50 bowlers on the GDSC greens with a mixed bag of results. Winners for the day were A Madden and J Collins while M Cook and B Williams were drawn out as the r/up. B Napper and K Foster were the day’s Lucky Losers. With four good bowlers on the day, the Tony’s Handyman and Home Maintenance resting toucher was won by D Graham with an early time of 13:21.

The number of bowlers was down to 28 on Wednesday, however this was expected as the Ramornie Cup was being held the same day. Winners on the day were M Shorten and G Maxted, with P Tranter and J Stacey coming out as runners up and B Elder and J Moerenhout were the days Lucky Losers. There was only one good bowler on the day, so the Tony’s Handyman and Home Maintenance resting toucher prize was won by A Madden with a time of 14:58.

The team of D Wood, L Basset, P Cubbin and T Macdonald were unable to bring the State RSL 4’s title back from Terrigal, falling to the eventual winners from Zone 8, so bad luck and hopefully we can try again next year. Remember to get to the GDSC on Wednesday and Friday afternoons for some great social games of bowls and keep your eyes on the board for upcoming games, and that wraps up this week in bowls.
