Fire + Rescue Day in Maclean

Lynne Mowbray |

The crew from the Maclean Fire + Rescue NSW (FRNSW) will hold their annual open day this Saturday 11 May, at the Maclean Community Markets.

Firefighters will be present at the markets from 8am – 12noon in Maclean’s back car park precinct, to meet with the community and to give them a closer look at the equipment used on the job.

Maclean FRNSW Station Commander Owen Gray said that the annual open day is also a great opportunity for their crew members to engage people in discussions about fire safety and prevention.

“Fire + Rescue Maclean will be displaying the different types of equipment that we use at fires, rescues, and hazardous material incidents,” Mr Gray said.

“Firefighters will be able to explain to members of the public how we use the various equipment and show them around the fire truck.

“The Maclean crew members will be keen to discuss the Home Fire Safety Program and provide information packs on how to keep their homes “fire safe”.

“Firefighters will also inform people of how they can have a free Home Fire Safety Check conducted at their home.

“There will be fire hats, Lego packs as well as activity packs for the kids to take home and learn about fire safety.

“The firefighters will use a ‘Kitchen Fire Simulator’ to demonstrate the right and the wrong ways to deal with a kitchen fire and promote a policy of ‘keep looking while cooking,” he said.
