Don’t miss My Future Fest in Grafton on 20 August 2019!

Young people in the Clarence Valley are being offered a unique opportunity to discover their passion by attending My Future Fest – a one stop shop for local youth to be held at TAFE NSW Grafton on Tuesday 20 August from 9.30am – 2.30pm.

My Future Fest is the brainchild of local employment and training provider ETC, who has joined forces with Clarence Valley Council and TAFE NSW to stage the event.

“My Future Fest is shaping up to be a fantastic event for local youth aged between 15 and 25,” said ETC CEO Jenny Barnett.

“We are really excited to be building on the program from the inaugural event held in 2017 by exposing young people in Grafton to a range of positive pathways available to them.

“There will be lots of interactive activities, practical workshops, Q&As with exhibitors, guest speaker presentations, live music performances and free food on offer.

“The ETC team is looking forward to running our popular Strengths, Resume and Interview Stations where we help young people identify what their strengths are, help them develop a resume and then give them some practical hints and tips on what to do in a job interview and the chance to practise with real life employers.”

Clarence Valley Council youth officer, Allira Newton, said My Future Fest provided an opportunity to connect young people with good quality information about the services available to them.

“It is an opportunity to help young people feel connected and supported in their community,” she said.

“We will provide young people with youth specific health information including employment, sexual health, drugs and alcohol, mental health, physical health, healthy relationships, Aboriginal health information, local support, housing information and LGBTIQ support.

“Our representatives will have conversations with young people on the day that helps to inform everything we do within council.

“We want to know what kind of community young people want to live in and why it matters to them.”

TAFE NSW Services Manager, Tania Williams said, “This partnership is a natural fit for TAFE NSW to provide insight into the range of training and employment opportunities available, right here in Grafton.

“TAFE NSW offers a range of practical, hands-on learning options and career advice to students so that they can get the skills they need, for the career that they want. This expo is a great opportunity for anyone who attends to understand their options.”

Local businesses and other agencies committed to workforce development are being encouraged to get behind the event by registering to take part.

“If you have a passion for improving things for young people in the training, career or health space, or just want to connect with young people, we encourage you to get involved,” ETC CEO Jenny Barnett said.
