Coutts Crossing croquet

Judi Woods made her first jump shot at her last outing, well deserved. The GC players played to handicap for the first time and games were closer. Jan Brodie played more than anyone and showed improvement. Joy Campbell had the best record, three wins. Ron Hockey came just to watch. He found croquet much more interesting then he had assumed and partnered with Peter Martin to a 7-3 victory, running 3 hoops.

The hotter it gets the more players come: A large group Thursday and Marj Astbury played well and we saw the return of Ann and Tony Williams and Louise Lowe. Phyl Harrison had the only 100% record. Cave Steiner, whose game has improved rapidly, had a jump shot, Royce Wilson a hoop to hoop. Ann Williams and Keith Brodie swapped jump shots in a singles match. 18 matches were played and 206 hoops run.

The Big Mack was back on Australia Day; Frank Mack played after several weeks away. The Martins won all their games, Yvonne Gillett hit a jump shot and Jan Brodie took control of the Qantas silver teaspoon with a fine hoop to hoop.

Ricochet players faced very high humidity. Ten one hour matches were played. Notably Rusty Case beat Peter Martin 14-13 at the buzzer. Sue Deeth beat Gillian Martin 10-9. John Hall beat Rusty Case 14-13 and Wayne Gadke lost to Peter Deeth 14-6.

The AC summer series continued with Peter Martin, at his best, racing to a 26-7 win over Peter Deeth in 80 minutes. He followed it on Sunday with 21-13.

School holidays are over and many seniors relieved of grand-parenting duties, so why not now give croquet a try. Call 6649 5109 for details.
