Clarence Valley Council asks tourists to stay away

March 27

Normally Easter and the April school holidays would be some of the busiest times on the Clarence Valley tourism calendar, however, this year as we race towards it we find ourselves strongly discouraging visitors.

Ashley Lindsay, council’s General Manager said “We really wish this was the time for holidaymakers in our communities, but unfortunately it is not. We really want you to stay home this year.”

The Clarence Valley is not one of the COVID-19 hotspots identified by the Health Department and everyone is very keen to keep it that way.

Local Real Estate Agents responsible for holiday rentals, accommodation providers and Airbnb operators are asked to do the right thing and ensure that they play a role in discouraging unnecessary domestic travel to the area. All holiday rentals should be cancelled.

“The Australian Government is discouraging all non essential domestic travel and while it is very important for everyone to have a break, time spent holidaying with family and friends is not classified as essential travel.” He reiterated “now is not the time to visit, when things get back to normal we look forward to welcoming you to the Clarence Valley with open arms.”

Visitors to the area are reminded of the Federal and State requirements around unnecessary domestic travel and locals are reminded to practice social distancing.
